dog parks?

I heard there's a gated dog park in dennistoun near one of the bowling clubs. Does anyone know where this is?

there is a bit of debate as to if this is a dog park!! its near onslow square, its just a gates square of grass, great for dogs :)

your talking about the square at Whitehill street/Onslow drive but its not a dog park - it was fenced and gated to keep dogs OUT and let children play safely inside, But it seems to have been taken over by some selfish Dog owners who let their dog foul the grass and run wild so the kids cant use it any more.
as someone has already said 'great for dogs' well it would have been even better for children

There's a bit of debate about whether the area is meant to be a dog park or for children. Perhaps those who are interested in using it should contact Glasgow City Council to find out exactly what its purpose is. As far as I know it was them who erected the path and the the railings.

It was Glasgow Housing Association who carried out the work //. Following a public meeting at City Park it was agreed the work should go ahead to create a public amenity area within closed boundaries . It is true that local and even far afield dog owners have to a degree monopolised the garden but it is not a dogpark indeed after consulting parks and recreation there is no such thing in Glasgow . Hopefully we can all enjoy the gardens in due course.

Den1, in my whole time living in Dennistoun I have never seen children play outside. Loiter, litter and cause a nuisance yes, but never playing.

Funny that Res, I've lived in Dennistoun a while and have always seen children playing outside - maybe the problem is what I see as children out being children and having harmless fun you see as a nuisance? But also maybe if there were more spaces for children to play in, then they wouldn't be engaging in what you see as loitering and being a nuisance? And it doesn't help that areas where they might play, like drying greens or any communal spaces are full of rubbish and litter dumped by adults and fouled by their dogs so children can't play in them.

The great debate continues,if it's not for dogs then there should be signs up stating no dogs allowed,when it first opened there was dog bins in it so dogs must have been allowed in at one point, As well as kids,why can't both use it? Am pretty positive the dog owners would pick up the mess! Could probably guarantee that if kids where to play/socialise in the 'park'there would be someone moaning about that to,why can't everyone not just get along and let all the community enjoy the 'park' Not a dog owner nor parent! Chill out/peace out...

What's the point in a 'dog park' anyway? Surely it just encourages laziness and fouling? Rather than just crossing a road to a wee patch of grass because you reluctantly had to take your dog out, how about getting some exercise for you and the dog.

Maybe because it encourages dogs to socialise and allows people to do so too. It also allows the dog to have a run around which I've heard dogs seem to enjoy...

Fair enough if the 'park' is of a decent size, but this small patch of ground isn't and most other dog parks aren't particularly large either. I'd say go to the actual park, but just make sure you pick up your poo! :)

Unfortunately after about 4pm it's probably a very bad idea to be walking around alexandra park on your own as there are no lights. People know the wee park isn't ideal but it's the best of what there is to allow your dog to safely run about. I don't understand why this annoys people so much.

there are no "dog parks" in Dennistoun.
that gated patch of grass was upgraded and fenced off for parents to take their kids to play so the kids could run around in safely, unfortunately selfish, lazy people have decided to use it as a place to exercise their dog - would you want you kid playing there when there are so many loose and excited dogs running around there, not to mention pooing there - even if the owner cleans up there will still be harmful germs left behind
