LIVING RENT DENNISTOUN
MISSION STATEMENT

Who we are
We are the Dennistoun branch of Scotlant’s tenants’ union, Living Rent. We represent local tenants and residents, workers, the employed and unemployed and the wider Dennistoun community. We are a force for change for these groups. Our shared goal is to fight for, and improve, tenants’ power and rights.

Organising principles
We do so by using organising principles that are centred around democracy, inclusivity and empowerment. We seek to build leadership in all our members, demonstrating solidarity and creativity to address the escalating issues faced by tenants and residents in Dennistoun.

What we want to change
We want to change the gross imbalance of power experienced by tenants compared to landlords, housing associations and the local council. We want to challenge the rapid momentum of gentrification in Dennistoun, make our voices heard and our needs recognised. We will positively challenge bad landlords of any kind and we will do so collectively, combatting the mounting feeling of isolation in contemporary society. We will forge a new kind of community, centred around tenant and residents’ needs.

How we want to change it
We recognise the scale of challenge in achieving our aims but the following principles will guide us to success:

  • Grow the branch to build power and representation
  • Share knowledge to empower our members and allies
  • Be vigilant to, and informed of, changes in the local area
  • Be aware of national change and its impact on the local neighbourhood
  • Build solidarity with other groups and organisations with shared goals
