Fitness Programme - Alexandra Park

Andrew posted on the 1/05/2013 9:56:46 AM

All,

I am thinking to apply for lottery funding to run a six week fitness programme located in Alexandra Park over the summer. It will run along the lines of a bootcamp style but I will introduce various training drills used in rugby, football, basketball, boxing to make it a lot more fun and enjoyable for all.

The empahsis will be for all, young or old, male and female and will be geared for Haghill and Dennistoun residents as its a community programme. I aim to title the programme H.I.T the ground (Haghill interval training) and looking to run it two nights/possibly a weekend over the summer for six weeks. After each intensive session I plan to hand out nutrion guides to help those new to exercise understand that fitness and diet go hand in hand.

For those who are interested to meet new people, increase fitness, lose weight and develop key skills then this might be for you.

As the programme might get funding I only plan to charge a nominal amount for after train treats as I would like to be all inclusive as possible.

Is this something you might be interested in or have any thoughts?

Is their anything I can do to help get buy in?

At this stage I am nearly ready to go but trying to gauge some loose interest before i commit.

Thanks

Sounds like a good idea and something I would definitely be interested in. The park is ideal for this as plenty of open space, hills and easily accessible. Fingers crossed that you get the funding and that this takes off. I know a fair few people in work (Royal infirmary ) that would likely be up for it as well, good luck!

Thanks Liam. I have included a small amount for marketing in the funding - leaflets and posters and would also use Facebook etc to spread the word to get as much reach as possible for the community. I will keep anybody interested in the outcome. They have a response time so could be up and running in June as all the training regimes have been completed.

I would be interested in that. Looking to lose some winter flab. Do you have a fb page set up yet?

Hi Kenny,

Its all dependent on getting this lottery funding on if it will run then I will be able to launch a page and start letting the community know what we are offering.

I will advertise through this forum also so keeping checking back for updates.

I have applied for funding for equipment (rugby balls, footballs, cones, power bags) for marketing materials (leaflets, posters, information sheets)and for t-shirts and hire of a hall.

I would definately be interested,I'm currently using the park to try and walk off some of my large amount of flab, so something like this would be ideal. Good luck with the funding!

Quick Update....

The application has been rejected for funding to run a fitness programme for the community for Dennistoun and Haghill.

The Big Lottery Fund stated it should be an existing organisation with a record of accounts etc and suggested I run it independently for a period before applying. In all honesty every suggestion i proposed they came up with an excuse for it not to go ahead. I will let you draw your own conclusions with this matter.

Thank you to all who expressed an interest.
