Problem with Orange Mobile
Phoner posted on the 17/05/2013 3:55:43 PM
We live in Whitehill Court and in the past few days haven't had a signal on our mobiles in our house. Called Orange to be told that a mast had been taken down and we will need to change provider. Anyone else been having problems?

Thanks for that information Fiona - I'm up on Alexandra Parade so don't know how Vodaphone would be here

I've got good signal with vodaphone in all rooms in my duke street flat. Â Moved from o2 because I regularly never had signal in my back rooms and had to stand at living room window to get reception which still often cut out during calls.

I've been consistently having problems since April/May of this year and have been given varying reasons by their representatives for this...all rubbish I might add. Â They have been crediting my account. However last week I was told that it was my flat that was the problem ehhh? Â Been with Orange for years with no problem so that's another load of tosh. Contract is up at the beginning of January and I think I will have to reluctantly move provider, but don't want to jump from frying pan into fire so who knows.

We spoke to an engineer at Orange who said the G31 area is designated as 'no indoor coverage' (shouldn't they have been upfront and let us know that we can only phone from the street)He said that a mast was removed from the high flat that's about to be demolished up at Rosemount, Roystonhill.
Please everyone who's with Orange, phone 150 and tell them you want indoor coverage in G31. They'll then send you a text questionnaire 'how did you rate customer service 0-10?' - the last question allows comments, so opportunity to reinforce that coverage in G31 is useless
#45 - David replied on the 17/10/2013 12:17:22 PM
I spoke to tmobile customer service and was told that as far as they are concerned the masts in the area are working fine. Â The suggestion was that it was just my flat that was the problem, but this thread leads me to conclude otherwise.
They gave me a discount on my line rental until the end of my contract (which is in December) and at that point I'll be moving network.

Apparently 3 is quite good in dennistoun, 02 is pointless
#42 - anon replied on the 9/10/2013 12:49:12 PM
I asked in the EE shop in Sauchiehall St and the guy said that when Orange & T Mobile merged into EE 'the government insisted that they remove a number of masts'...? He said that unless huge numbers of people complain nothing will be done(if you get call centre staff who say they aren't authorised to do anything about it - make sure they register the complaint). My phone's useless most of the time around dennistoun - though I managed to get a signal to phone a taxi tonight by going up a ladder & holding the phone upside down for a few mins.....

I am with O2 and in the buildings in dennistoun I have always found the reception to be poor yet out on the streets it is much better.
It is a pain when you get a call and it starts to break up or cuts off.

I started this post originally. We were having problems, sent a booster box but didn't need to use as the problem seemed to be sorted however in the last week or two it's gone back to being as bad as ever!! We are with Orange.
#39 - anon replied on the 11/09/2013 9:51:38 PM
Same problems as most on here following the local mast being removed (confirmed by 'level 3' at Orange, located on the high rises beside the forge retail park apparently) - even with a supposed signal on the masts we've been bumped to, in most cases I simply couldn't call or txt. Like others above I was sent a booster box too and, after repeat calls with Orange, they've finally agreed to release me from the remainder of my contract (just under a year left) - no penalty, and I get to keep the handset. Being cut off repeatedly when calling their own team may have helped with that...
Picked up a sim for Three earlier, although the reception seems patchy inside my flat. I'll try a Vodaphone sim tomorrow and post if there's any improvement. If O2's iffy, as above, that doesn't leave us all with much of a choice - GiffGaff and Tesco Mobile both use the O2 network, whilst T-mobile's the shared mast that we sometimes get a signal with via Orange/EE.
#38 - Jay replied on the 11/09/2013 11:27:41 AM
Convinced this is due to the new mast EE have put up for the whole of Glasgow which is being  spread gradually over  Glasgow.  They have been issuing phone number to call if your tv or freeview is affected.  I can only assume it is this which is affecting our phones.  I called from Renfrewshire area no problem, when I got home I lost the signal altogether.  I had T-Mobile on my 'phone before they took down the mast, after a month it came up as T-Mobile-orange, now nothing and when I try to find the signal again I have T-Mobile for a minute and then jumps to No Signal.  scunnered.

I think Dennistoun has always been a bit of a black spot for mobiles. Â I moved about 11 years ago from O2 to Orange as it was the best for Whitehill Street. Â However, for about the last 4 months, No Service has appeared on my screen more often than not (now in Broompark Drive), and only 1 in 4 calls connects, even when full bars are displayed. Â Reading through this thread, O2 also still have issues. Â So does that mean that Vodaphone is the way to go for Dennistoun-ites?

I've been having reception problems too with orange pay as you go - really bad in April/May then a bit better June/July but still unreliable. It's been worse again the past couple of weeks.Sometimes no signal at all, then ok for a bit, but totally inconsistent
#35 - Pat replied on the 20/08/2013 7:09:56 PM
I have an iPhone5 with O2 and the reception in Roslea Drive is appalling! Sometimes I have to go outside to use the phone and even then it cuts out! Does anyone know of an effective way to contact O2 customer support about this issue(short of actually walking to Finnieston and knocking on their door?

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I've been having signal problems in Craigpark Drive since May and I have just today been given my PAC code so I can get out of my orange contract for free! My contract isn't up until March.
I've phone them numerous times for quite a long time each call (today's call was an hour!). They told me at first that a local mast had been decommissioned and would be back working soon but 3months later the signal hadn't changed at all so I kept bothering them. I had to go through a lot of system checks/signal testing etc. and also got sent a signal booster that worked a little bit but kept cutting my calls off mid-call. They told me it would work if I moved it into the middle of my property but I can't as it has to be connected in such a way that it is beside my TV so eventually they passed me through to "customer loyalty" who said I could leave for free!
It's so frustrating especially as to call them I had to use my mobile which kept cutting out!!! They do call back on your landline though if you can get enough signal to tell them your number so I'd recommend that!
Success after 3months...worth it though as I'm hopefully going to have a better signal with another network now.

Isanybodythere, that sounds exactly like my experience, extremely unpredictable and v annoying. I need the phone for work.
#32 - isanybodythere replied on the 19/07/2013 3:53:25 PM
I'm getting full bars from Orange right now. Then later I'll have someone phone me on the land line as they can't get through. I check my phone and zero bars! Highly inconsistent from great to gone. I can still get a signal from my back bedroom from tmobile EE but pretty weak.
#31 - Lou replied on the 19/07/2013 3:44:57 PM
Thank you! Looks like I'll have to pursue the booster then as problem shows no sign of abating.

Hi there
After posting the original post my husband and I both have signals back. We were sent a booster but haven't had to use it. We are in Whitehill Court

I am still experiencing lengthy periods of no signal on my phone in the flat (Garthland Dr). Is anyone else continuing to have problems?
#28 - Jay replied on the 5/06/2013 7:52:49 PM
Spoke too soon - now haven't had any service on my phone for two days so far
#27 - Jay replied on the 3/06/2013 7:48:13 PM
My mobile seems to be working again after a few weeks, Â perhaps they have now fixed the problem. Â I am at the top end of Alexandra Parade
#26 - anon replied on the 2/06/2013 8:51:02 PM
As above, they're taken down the mast that was previously covering this area. I've been sent one of these booster boxes too, although that will only cover ~20m from the location it's issued on. They're looking at upgrading the t-mobile mast we're currently being covered by, but it won't be a quick fix, if at all, meaning the same issues persist if you go anywhere outside of the local booster coverage that doesn't fall under another mast.
I've another ten months of my own second contract, although having been with orange for over ten years (eight years at this flat) it's somewhat frustrating, to say the least. As this issue started at the end of April, I've cancelled my rolling monthly contract and I'll be chasing them again later this week (fourth call) re: my second personal contract - if anyone gets a straight answer on cancelling without penalty due to orange's own change of service quality, it would be helpful to know. Should it be of benefit to anyone, o2 coverage here seems to be OK - it's what my partner uses.
#25 - Phoner replied on the 30/05/2013 9:09:05 AM
T-mobile and Orange have merged. Â We've been promised a booster but still waiting on it!!!
#24 - PMc replied on the 29/05/2013 9:38:51 PM
I have had the same problem with Orange. I went into the EE shop in Argyle St and used their phone to speak to customer services. I was told that they are changing the masts over and that the one in Bluevale St had been switched off. I was also told that it could be a couple of months before the switch over to knew sites was compete . Â The guy I was speaking to said he would check to see if I would be allowed a signal box and get back to me on my landline later that day..I received a call at 8pm to say that the signal box was being posted. We now have the signal box installed and touch wood it is working fine and we are able to use the phone in the house and garden. Haven't tried the phone out on the street yet. Â We were told that we could cancel our contracts without charge if this option didn't work.
#23 - David replied on the 28/05/2013 2:35:51 PM
I've just moved to Whitehill St and I'm finding I have no signal at all in the flat with t-mobile. Out and about in Dennistoun I find it patchy at best.
When I first viewed the flat a couple of months ago the signal seemed fine, so something's obviously changed in the interim. I'll get in touch with customer service and see what they suggest.

Hi All,
I am facing this similar problem for past 2 weeks, I have two orange SIM one for me and other for my wife and we both are struggling with it. The reception seems to be be very poor it comes very low at random times but mostly its no signal. Moreover I had a guest couple of months ago at my place he had O2 SIM but his signals were worst at the time when orange was better, therefore can't say if O2 would work.
cheers!!

I also am with orange and have had "no service" for past two weeks.
Phoned Orange on Friday and spent 15 mins doing diagnostic tests on my phone (pointless but I humoured them). I was then transferred to the network section and spoke to a nice man there. He said there was maintenance on a mast.
I asked three questions
1. Is this problem permanent? - He couldn't say for sure
2. Can I get a refund for the last month? - he said yes
3. Can I leave Orange if it is not sorted- he said let's try something first.
He has "applied" for me to get a booster that will plug into my wifi (not from orange) and allow me to have a better signal in my flat. I asked him what happens when I go to Tibo or the Co-op? It won't work there.
Someone is phoning me back on Tuesday to tell me if I am getting a booster or not and then we are taking it from there.
My boyfriend is with O2 and his phone cuts out a lot.

I live in the Drives and have also had problems and contacted Orange to be told -'I have checked coverage for your postcode area. It does indicate a degraded site. When a problem is identified, our engineers aim to resolve all issues ASAP.' I know other providers have difficulty with service in parts of Dennistoun but I've never had a problem with Orange - until now. Anyone know a mobile provider that guarantees service throughout Dennistoun?

I notice a crane and some workers fitting masts on top of the high rise on Royston road this morning.
#15 - anon replied on the 23/05/2013 8:54:22 PM
is there a chance they are taking the masts on top of the highrises down in advance of them being demolished?

I phoned orage. nightmare. spoke to a lady //.she said she would send me a txt which would sort it. it didnt. She could not tell me why the signal was gone. I went into the orange shop in Buchie yesyerday.Several Dennistonians have been in. still no explanation. I enquired as to when my contract ran out. 5 days time! Result. 15 years with orange too with no probs. there was somthing on watchdog about similar probs in London. Ive been to vodaphone already / i pick up my new i phone on friday. Also, my pal lives near Ladywell. He thinks that the new flats at the Lampost and the ones behind in high street could be somthing to do with it. The top went on about a week ago. Lots of steel there too. just a guess.

Hi there
Just spoke to Orange again and been told that a mast has been switched off. They told me to switch off my 3G and see if signal is better with 2G. Doesn't that defeat the purpose???
I've also been given a number that goes straight to Customer Services (bypasses the automated service when you dial 150)and it is 439. Of course you can only phone from your Orange Mobile if you can get a signal!!!
#12 - Phoner replied on the 23/05/2013 10:32:13 AM
I called 150 from my Orange phone (not when I was in the house of course!!). The number I called from my landline was 07973 100 150.
#11 - anon replied on the 23/05/2013 9:00:39 AM
Phoner what is the phone number to complain to.
#10 - Phoner replied on the 23/05/2013 12:21:59 AM
Still waiting on a callback from Orange re signal problem. Â An engineer is looking into it!! Â They suggested we terminate our contracts but would have to pay to get out of it. Â Told them no way!! Â Their fault. Â What a cheek! Â According to another thread on this forum Orange has told someone else that the mast is undergoing major repairs and the problem should be resolved by the end of the month. Â They've also offered to compensate them. Â I'll be calling back tomorrow to complain - again!!!

Is 02 any better?
#8 - ET replied on the 21/05/2013 8:16:22 AM
I went into an Orange store today and explained what was going on. The chap said it was a problem they were having today. I explained that it was not just today and that people in Dennistoun were having the same problem. His reply was to "give it a month and see what happens". I immediately went next door and changed to O2.

We were told the future was bright the future was orange.Thats a laugh, any recomendations whos any good. Looks like ill need to get a new provider.

Presumably Orange offered to release you from your contract without incurring any cancellation penalty?
#5 - Phoner replied on the 19/05/2013 10:21:02 PM
I plan to call them back and ask what mast they are talking about. Â As I couldn't get through to them on my mobile I had to call them from my landline and waited 30 minutes then spent the night waiting for callbacks on and off. Â What we can't understand is that we have 'bars' on our phones which makes it look as if we have a signal. Â According to them the reason i'll get the occasional text message/phone call etc in the house is because my phone then logs onto another mast which isn't been used much at that moment in time. Â Very sporadic but doesn't solve the problem that when I do get a text message it's about 3 hours late!!
#4 - Louisa replied on the 19/05/2013 7:21:35 PM
I've had this issue for the past few days. It's on and off though which hardly seems consistent with the explanation given. Wonderful customer service from Orange!
