Spinsters Flats

I grew up in Coventry Drive 1946 - 61, adjacent to the "Spinsters' Flats", which lie along Sannox Gardens, with one entry in Coventry Drive. I can dimly remember them being built, and our friendly (though very respectful) relationships with some of the women who lived there - there was an air of gentility about the residents, who were not all spinsters - our favourite was Mrs Gillies, who gave us comics from her grandchildren in America.

Were these Corporation houses? Was their designation as Spinsters' Flats official, or a local naming?

Lots of Single Lady Accommodation was built in Glasgow.  The flats in Warriston Street in Carntyne were built specifically for single person accommodation with a common room for socialising.

Yes John they were originally built for single Ladies, I also remember them being built, in fact John McCann told me to bury my hat & scarf in the sand when they were working on the foundations, we never did recover them, also George Diamond tossed my Hula Hoop onto the roof, it was never recovered either.
