Finlay Drive Incident 28/10/13
Laura posted on the 28/10/2013 11:12:06 AM
Does anyone know what happened at the white new build flats at the start of Finlay Drive in the early hours this morning (28/10/13)? I live in this block and was awoken by banging at around 2am, and found a fire engine parked outside with the car park blocked off with tape and something going on in the parking bays under the building. The fire engine left but men in uniform remained on the scene taking pictures etc. No indication of a fire this morning, but its obviously very concerning after the events on Roselea Drive the night before.

I spoke to a police officer this morning and he said there was a attempt at a fire or a small fire which didnt spread - all very worrying! there is an incident unit in the vicinity for the investigation.

That's really worrying, two fires on sequential nights! Hopefully that will be the last of them and the incident unit can get to the bottom of the causes.

I feel really sorry for all those who have lost their homes. The picture of the man being rescued from the top floor flat is horrifying! I live in the street and regularly see a number of kids playing outside these flats on their bikes and it is so sad to think of what they have lost. Thankfully they did not lose their lives. Hopefully this has been accidental. It is awful to think someone could have done this on purpose. Does anyone know if they are still treating this as suspicious?

Maybe now the bottle and clothes banks are away the thugs/arsonists have moved onto property. The police NEED to sort this out before someone is killed!

I cant stop thinking of the poor families and what they have been through. Â One of the kids rescued from the fifth floor is a pupil at Alexandra Parade Primary and they have set up an appeal for donations of clothing etc for the family. Â I would like to see something being done in the community for all families involved in this incident as, although they have been lucky to survive, most will have been left with nothing. Â Has anyone heard of anything being arranged before I approach DCC and the Library?

I've not heard of anything being arranged yet, but really keen to help with donations where-ever possible.
The Metro has reported the fire // . Hopefully the police will get to the bottom of both fires ASAP, and will put our minds to rest.

Can you let us know if you set up anything for the families as would like to donate? Â Does anyone know the ages of the kids? Â I have kids myself so could see what I could pass on.

Any further word on how/where to donate anything for all the people involved? I would love to help out if I can. Sharon R, did you approach DCC?

Hi all, I have approached the council and await a reply. I have also started collecting at my work and was going to add this to the donations collected by Alexandra Parade in the meantime.
The support shown is amazing, good to see people come together, I will keep you all posted!
