Bizarre noise early 3rd January

Anyone in the Armadale st, Finlay Drive area hear a very bizarre noise for about half an hour around 5am on the 3rd January? It could only be described as a loud shrieking, screaming sound. I assumed it was a fox or cats or at one point a seagull but the sound lasted for ages. We have scaffolding in front of our flat so i couldn't see what was going on.
It carried on for at least half an hour before moving (what sounded to me like) downhill to Roslea drive towards Duke St.
Can anyone shed any light? Very bizarre!

Yes I heard it, woke me up. Assumed it was a fox, very creepy sound right enough.

Heard it too and it was indeed foxes. Believe it or not that unearthly shrieking is the sound of them mating

Would have almost certainly been a fox. This is the mating season and the screeching contact calls are what you would have heard. Pretty disturbing if you havent heard them before but they are just doing their thing.

yea I lived by a wood and heard foxes mating. It sounds insane, like a girl getting attacked.

Yes, the first time I heard foxes make this noise I honestly thought someone was being attacked!
