Police Scotland is currently consulting on local policing plans.

The policing priorities for East Centre ward are: 1. Assault & Violent Crime; 2. Drug Dealing & Drug Use; 3. Drunk or Disorderly Behaviour; 4. Housebreaking & Other Theft.

Dennistoun Community Council is raising awareness of this consultation and invites input from the wider community.

Responses should be made (by Friday 24th January) noting: agreement, or not, on current priorities; new or emerging priorities; priority locations; any other issues to be flagged up.

Comments made via DCC (please see contact details on this website) will be collated into a combined report and submitted to Police Scotland.

If you wish to make comment directly to Police Scotland please send info to Jim.Coubrough@scotland.pnn.police.uk.

The local policing plan will be discussed at DCC meeting on Tuesday 14th january (7pm to 9pm at Gingerbread Hall, 128 Armadale Street). Community council meetings are open to the public and attendance is warmly welcomed.

Regards,

Stephen, DCC Chair

in responding to this consultation, Dennistoun Community Council (DCC) noted general support for the current policing priorities.

DCC also requested that the following points be considered in revising a new Policing Plan for the ward:

- Public demand for increased presence of community police on foot and/or cycle, particularly during evenings/night-time, to provide community reassurance.
- Some areas (Wellpark and Meadowpark/Alexandra Parade area) experiencing issues with young people and disorder.
- Antisocial behaviour, vandalism and damage an ongoing issue in Glasgow Necropolis (and likely to worsen unless response made by GCC, police, etc).
- Dangerous driving and speeding a frequent issue in certain locations (e.g. Westercraigs, Craigpark); existing traffic calming seems to exacerbate problem.
- Preference for increased focus on prevention activities - possibly via better local connection with Crime Prevention Panel (and police support for this).
- Bogus callers identified as an issue in 2013 (with a number of high-profile incidents) and house-breaking seems to take place on a cyclical nature.
- Metal theft is an issue at Necropolis and at a number of larger properties formerly utilised for institutional use (e.g. nurseries, care homes, schools, etc).

Overall, there is an aspiration for a more effective partnership between community police and DCC in support of crime prevention and community safety initiatives.

This could include: information and advice surgeries (using Duke Street shop units or other public spaces); property marking and registration schemes; home security initiatives (including purchase, distribution and/or fit of door viewers, security chains, etc); production of themed monthly bulletins tying in with DCC meeting schedule.
