Missing Litter Bins?
Dennistoun Community Council posted on the 6/06/2014 7:10:18 PM
It's been highlighted that litter bins across Dennistoun have been vandalised, set alight, or otherwise removed from lamp posts.
As part of DCC's ongoing 'Community and Environmental Audit' we will note missing bins for replacement by Glasgow City Council.
Please provide details of locations (including lamp post reference numbers if known) where you think litter bins need to be replaced. It would be more efficient for GCC to replace a number of bins at the same time.
All info welcomed.

Plenty of bins missing from Craigpark on both sides of the street. Not sure what the post numbers are but this area is bad for dog ****.

Hi. Definitely one missing from Golfhill drive. I've seen such a number that are missing that I'm thinking they're all too easy to take off.......they are all far too flimsy. I dont think a bin should be a great solid concrete lump welded to anything that doesnt move, but I'm sure their flimsyness will contribute to the council having to replace them often.

Thanks all for providing info, much appreciated.
Dennistoun Community Council is meeting with area manager from GCC Land and Environmental Services on Monday 16th June and a list of missing bins will be forwarded for action (along with other cleansing issues).
Please flag up other sites where bins are missing / damaged and we'll add to list.

There are 2 bins missing on Broompark Drive at the gardens end. The binn lids are still attached but the main bin body has been removed. Lamposts are number 8 and 10. Also the larger ground level bin was removed some time ago from the top end of Westercraigs at the gardens.

Hi I know there are at least two bins missing on Duke St (between the churches) and on another topic, would it be possible to talk to the council about the state of the footpaths (same area of Duke St) which are starting to come apart, there are large areas of tar missing which are a trip hazard and in winter weather can be lethal underfoot.
Thanks

Hi,
Could you also bring up, that if it is possible to make sure the bin men shut the back close door and front door after collecting the rubbish, as there have now been a number of break ins in the area.
Thanks

Missing bin on Meadowpark Street, just outside close number 19 and also on Roselea Drive right outside the primary school

I see they've cut the grass around Duke street train station ( at last).Unfortunately its still be used by the public as a place for dumping rubbish! Why don't you put up a sign saying £50 fine if caught etc! Prevention is better than cure and we need to give the public a fright!

The grassy area across from Duke Street station is used as a dumping ground as well but there's warning signs about fly tipping which has done nothing to deter anyone.

Jake, I have reported the open close doors to the council EVERY WEEK for months and keep getting fobbed off with "we'll discipline them" and "it won't happen again". It's happening ALL THE TIME!!! DCC it would be VERY MUCH appreciated if this could be dealt with as a matter of urgency by the council.

Thanks all for comments and contributions.
Members of DCC met with LES supervisor last week and issues above were highlighted and taken away for review (a detailed list was provided).
The problem of close and backcourt doors being left open was also highlighted and will be conveyed to LES area management team. DCC will ask for update and response for our next meeting on 8th July.

Resurrecting this thread as notice a couple of missing litter bins on the drive last couple of days - Whitehill St. between Onslow Drive and Garthland Drive, Golfhill Drive just before the Craigpark junction. Also general lack of street cleaning post-Commonwealth Games (even saw litter pickers down at Bellgrove/Duke St junction then ...) - Whitehill St. looking particularly bad at the moment but soon the leaves will start blocking the drains up too ...

Cragielee street there is no bin, just the lid. there also needs a big ground level one outside the swallow on alexandra parade. it was removed a couple of years ago after being tipped over but never replaced.

Malarki and Anon, thanks for your recent updates.
DCC will forward this information to Council's Land and Environmental Services (LES) and will monitor ongoing progress.
Following the initial series of reports, in June, a number of litter bins were replaced. DCC is ensuring that LES is kept informed about local concerns and service requests.
