Potholes, paving repair and other street problems
Dennistoun Community Council posted on the 11/06/2014 8:42:07 PM
Next week members of Dennistoun Community Council are meeting with a representative from Land Services to discuss issues affecting the area. Among the topics we intend to raise are repair of reported potholes and poor quality footpaths. We also like to establish a form of feedback enabling the community to know when repairs are scheduled. If there are any matters that we should raise, please let us know below.

The pavements on Duke Street are a disgrace and must be well overdue a job on them. They are cracked throughout and have large sections of concrete which are loose and could be used for all sorts of mischief.

Thanks for your comments so far. Dennistoun Community Council first raised concerns about sections of Duke Street paving over a year ago, and further sections were reported in February, all via the Glasgow Council's RALF system. This is a topic we will be bringing up.

They have repaired a couple in the road at Duke Street train station - but its not been done very well and just looks like a dod of tarmac has been stuffed in so its all coming apart again.

Gutter cleaning needs addressed asap please. Around Whitehill Gardens is a disgrace and when it rains the water flows along the road like a river as the gutters are so choked with weeds. Also the actual drains are chocked with earth and weeds and despite reporting this to the council several times, nothing has been done about it. Where do they think the water's going to go if the drains are blocked???

I'm afraid gutter cleansing is a matter for individual tenement blocks if privately owned, or housing association property management. I'll raise the blocked drains as a matter reported but not dealt with.

Noticed this morning that the trains are totally full of gravel from where theyve started resurfacing the road on Millerston Street, can imagine this is going to cause issues when it rains heavily.

Sorry that should read drain, not train!

Well the pavements on Alexandra parade are bed enough that I've tripped and hurt myself a few times. And there is a pot hole on the parade west bound outside "two sides" at the pedestrian traffic lights near Meadowpark street that is getting much worse, when a bus or lorry hits it you can feel the vibration for quite a distance. Its shaking the buildings for the people living near there.
I do wonder if anyone from the council ever bothers to walk round the area doing a survey rather than scoot by in a car.

Junction of Hanson St and Circus Drive is particularly bad, but then so is the whole of Circus Drive.

I meant the kerb side gutters (is that not what they are called?) Â The rain gutters that are supposed to flow into the said blocked drains are choked with weeds and so the water has no where to run, so to speak. Thanks

Drain at the junction of Craigpark and Circus Drive is blocked and so the road floods everytime it rains (so not the last couple of weeks ...) and some drivers think it's funny to soak pedestrians ...

Whitehill St., heading up the hill just after the Finlay Drive junction, big hole in the carriageway.

Thanks all for comments and contributions.
Members of DCC met with LES supervisor last week and issues above were highlighted and taken away for review (a detailed list was provided, including comments up to 14th June).
LES are willing to do an audit of blocked drains and missing bins within the DCC area. We'll get an update on this at our meeting on 8th July (when we also anticipate input from Community Safety Glasgow in relation to Area Management issues).
