Dennistouns Big Gig, Saturday 12th July
Dennistoun Community Council posted on the 8/07/2014 6:10:46 PM
Dennistoun Community Council recently secured funding to host a community music event as part of the 'Our Big Gig' initiative - a national project with 12 other events throughout Scotland.
Date: Saturday 12th July
Time: 6pm (BBQ and soundtracks), 7pm to 10pm (performances).
Venue: Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre, 13 Whitevale St, G31 1QW
The event is free to attend, including the BBQ, although voluntary donation buckets may be in place (to fundraise for future Our Big Gig events).
Programme:
- Jethro Kinavuidi: Jethro came to Scotland from the Democratic Republic of Congo, in 2008. Persecuted for his political opinions, it was too dangerous for him and his family to stay. His album 'Thank You Glasgow' raises awareness of the situation there.
- Phil O'Malley and Friends: Phil is a jazz trombone player and a graduate of the Masters Degree in Jazz - the first qualification of its kind in Scotland. Phil performs regularly with award-winning ensembles such as the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Ken Mathieson's Classic Jazz Orchestra, and Salsa Celtica.
- Lorraine McCauley: Singer-songwriter Lorraine's voice draws you in with its ethereal expressive quality and even at its gentlest the strength in her voice is compelling, easily able to hold its own in the context of the endlessly fascinating and inventive soundscapes her band creates around her songs.
- Sarah Hayes: Her crystalline vocals, dextrous instrumental skills and creative melodic approach help define the sound of Glasgow indie-pop favourites Admiral Fallow.
If you are attending the Big Gig please let us know at hello@dennistouncc.org.uk - this will help in planning for the BBQ and seating arrangements.
Funding for this event has been secured via an 'Our Big Gig' grant from Creative Scotland and Superact and funding via Glow Arts (creative arts company).

p.s. DCC will also use the early part of the event to engage in a final round of community consultation on the Days Out in Dennistoun map and app. This work is being supported by Future City Glasgow 'change agents' - a separate posting will be made with more details.

Thanks to the organisers for the gig on Saturday. We had a wonderful time listening to amazingly talented performers and meeting some very nice people - including neighbours that we hadn't spoken to before. Can I also thank you for the veggy Bar-B-Que, everyone I spoke with was absolutely loving the food.

dennistouncc.org.uk now has a selection of photos from Our Big Gig in Dennistoun, which saw some fantastic talent come to play on our doorstep. We hope those who went enjoyed the evening, and that we'll be able to do something similar in the future and see you there when we do.
