Stolen bike

Thought I would flag this up to warn others and also see if anyone has spotted an abandoned bike with a heavy duty lock from the frame to the back wheel.
It was taken from a secure close on Duke Street near Greggs between 8pm Sunday 20th and 11am Monday 21st. It was a silver/grey 17inch Trek 7.3 with a black pannier rack and mudguards and had a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit lock on it (an £80 D-lock with a vivid yellow cap which locked the back wheel to the frame and would take some getting through.) The bike must have either been carried away or put into a van, it could not have been cycled with the lock on it which would need power tools to break. The bike itself is probably only worth about £300 and we thought it might be abandoned somewhere locally if the thief realised the lock would be so hard to get through and the bike was of relatively little value. If anyone spots anything, please reply in this thread.
And please let it be a heads up to others that bike thieves may be around, targetting closes, even secure ones, and lifting bikes that are only locked to themselves rather than to an immoveable object.. Might be an idea to take bikes in to the safety of your flat.

I had my bike stolen from outside my flat a week ago (on the top floor) and the thief turned up with the tools to cut through the chain. So unless they were just randomly checking closes that were not secured with big bolt cutters I would agree that there may be bike thiefs in the area.
When I spoke to the police about it they said there had been a spate of bikes stolen in the area so it seems likely.
In the case of my bike it was done on a monday morning (not long after the bin men had been round - which relates to another thread) in the timeframe of only a few hours.
