Just got a call today from an insurance company checking that I am still at my address as important documents they sent me have been returned to sender! What's going on?! I'm starting to worry what other mail I have missed!
#44 - John replied on the 11/09/2014 6:54:06 PM
If it is happening to so many people then there is something wrong with the way the mail is now being delivered or with how many postmen are being used, I would advise anyone that is having the same problem as myself with lots of no accesses being written on letters even though my service button is available right up to 4pm to phone the sorting office to complain. If enough complain they will have to investigate the customer ( or lack of ) service.
#43 - Julie replied on the 10/09/2014 11:49:05 PM
Does anyone know what we can do about this? Is it a case of raising the issue with Royal Mail every time there is an issue? Is it really the service button that is causing the problem? I'm finding it increasingly stressful and frustrating chasing up 'lost'/returned to sender mail. I don't think in 7years living here I ever had anything which was undeliverable and was returned to sender without even a card left to let me know delivery had been attempted, yet in the last 2months I have had 3!! Along with countless items of mail turning up up to a week late.
#42 - anon _l replied on the 10/09/2014 10:01:48 PM
So he has he gained access for the other mail I've received since the 3rd (if you'd read my message right you'd have seen I said this)
If, in your words it's taken out everyday then surely he could have posted it along with the OTHER mail I've received the past week???
#41 - anon replied on the 10/09/2014 8:12:57 PM
That's because hasn't gained access all week starting on the 3/9/14!
Do you want him to right a different date on each item, every day he cant get in!
e.g.3/9/14
  4/9/14
  5/9/14 etc
Undelivered mail goes back to the sorting frame in the sorting office(checked by management)and taken out the next day!
This is taken out every day until, eventually somebody lets the poor sod in!(increased weight everyday)

I received a bundle of mail today with no access 3/9/14 written on it. I have received mail between now and then but where has todays been if they tried a week ago?

Also not had many deliveries recently. All seems to come at once when it does. Had issues with buzzer not being pressed when I have been in. Dates on the letters suggest that they have been posted days apart but all arrived at once.
I also had to complain when they said that they couldn't gain access to to the close to post letters through my door when the close door was actually broken and wouldn't even close properly never mind lock.
#37 - mac01 replied on the 10/09/2014 11:03:58 AM
Despite working from home I've have had lots of post in marked "no access" despite watching the postie stroll up the street but never hitting my buzzer to access my close to deliver my mail, more than a little frustrating.
In the last two months we have had more "no access" marked mail than we have had in the last two years. Plus mail/packages sent back to the sender with no notice to us or attempt to deliver it.
Part of this I'm sure is the moving about of the postmen to other beats so the relationship with householders is gone. My old postman knew to hit my number to get access for the entire close.
I complain every time something happens now (and suggest everyone does), plus when ordering stuff online I chose companies that dont use royal mail where I can.
Right now, I dont feel they are providing the service that they have accepted payment to supply. Sad really.

John - I think you'll find I was right here agreeing with everything people were saying about the closure of Cubie Street and also filled in the petition etc.
#35 - John replied on the 9/09/2014 6:41:30 PM
My service button is on right up till 4pm and I am still getting post with the words written on them saying 'no access' with a date beside it. The problem is they have cut back on the number of postmen for each area and they are coming into the area in cars with lots of post in their boot. The attitude is if they can't deliver them all in the time during that day they deliver the rest the next day. They used to deliver the post into the small grey boxes you see all over the place and the postmen from that area would collect and deliver but part of their delivery time now is coming and going back to the sorting office out near Tollcross.Where were all you complaining people when we were looking for help to stop them shutting Cubie St sorting office ?

This week I have been informed of yet another two items of mail which have been returned to sender! And one which was sent on 15th August but still hasn't arrived. I understand that it's possible postie can't gain access but I'm confused as to why this is happening so much now, when it has never been an issue before? Also, I've managed to get some, albeit a very little amount, mail through yet some doesn't make it! It's increasingly frustrating and not sure what to do about it?
#33 - Jesse replied on the 2/09/2014 10:41:09 AM
I've had various financial companies contact me to confirm I am still in my address, as the Royal Mail kept returning mail rather than attempt to deliver it.
Clearly they are not making any effort at all to deliver mail.

"Blame the management in Royal Mail"Â Â Goes without saying.
#31 - anon replied on the 1/09/2014 9:33:56 PM
They cant deliver because they don't go on the road till 9.30am!(9.30am to 14.15pm,is the new delivery times) With a service button set at 12.00pm,they cant get in after 12.00pm without someone opening the door!
The early morning times for the past 1000 years have gone now! (last year this newtime came in)
Blame the management in Royal Mail, not the postman!
#30 - Julie replied on the 1/09/2014 9:03:33 PM
Hi, I usually get parcels re delivered to local post office if I'm not going to be in to take re delivery or able to make it to the sorting office. There's a fee but it's much more convenient
#29 - EC replied on the 1/09/2014 9:02:45 PM
Anon, we've had tenements for over 100 years! Why is it just now that the posties can't deliver?
#28 - anon replied on the 1/09/2014 8:12:29 PM
The postie probably didn't press her number because there was no mail for her on that day!
Hes probably had mail for another number but there was no answer!
They only way round it is for the postie to press every button so that somebody lets him in,but people moan about this as well!
A postie wants rid of the mail asap,he doesn't want to continue carrying a heavy weight of unanswered mail and take it back to the office everyday!
This makes the job heavier everyday with no solution in sight until maybe the Saturday morning when thers more chance someone wiii be in!
Contact your local sorting office ( used to be Cubie street)at the address on a cardif you have any doubts! The obvious problem with Dennistoun is that it has more flats than semi-detached and detatched houses making access much more difficult than most of the other areas of Glasgow!
#27 - Anon replied on the 1/09/2014 8:11:55 PM
As a student, who doesn't drive, having parcels and mail sent back to the sorting office is an absolute nightmare and risk them being sent back to the sender if I can't arrange a redelivery to work around my uni hours...does anyone know how you can arrange to have parcels left with a neighbour? Is that with Royal Mail or something you leave on the delivery instructions of the parcel?
#26 - Anon replied on the 1/09/2014 11:22:05 AM
I see someone suggested that we contact our factors to get the times changed on the service button. If we were to do this then there would be no point in having secured entry!!
Regarding the mail, I live just off the Parade and I seem to have problems too. I have been at home during the day and the postie has pressed my buzzer to enter even though there was no mail for me that day. So the other point about pressing buzzers for people who don't have mail is not exactly valid either. I have people in my close who are home all day every day and we still get letters through saying no access a few days later. My neighbour who is at home all the time said that the postie turned up one day and she went to stand by the buzzer waiting for him to press it and it never went. She then seen him quickly walk away from the close and out the street! I am not saying that the postie is stealing mail but what I am saying is that some of them are not doing the job correctly. This may be due to them being overworked but I can say the same with me in my job but I would never make the customer suffer due to my working hours/conditions, I would take this up with my boss instead.
The suggestion of an evening service is actually a good one or allocate a post office actually in the area (not miles away) where people can pick up their mail in the evening.
#25 - local replied on the 31/08/2014 12:25:24 PM
With so many people out at work during the week, it would be good if say once a week, an evening service could operate in this area.People cant take time off work in case the postie comes. The Royal mail want our custom, but they must be prepaired to give us a service. Also moving the pick-up point to way out of the area is of no use to most people.Ican remember when we had a pick-up point in Hillfoot street ,then Cubie street.

"What exactly are Royal Mail doing wrong?

Its not their fault stuff you ordered isn't turning up!

Are you actually for real? The minute someone leaves something with Royal Mail, be it through a postbox or via a post office, then it's out of the senders hands.//
#23 - anon replied on the 30/08/2014 11:30:19 PM
Royal Mail Delivery time is 9.45am-1445pm
Lots of doors don't open after 12.00pm,so this is the problem Royal Mail management seem to have forgot!
#22 - EC replied on the 30/08/2014 11:03:47 PM
It's all very odd. I am old enough to remember the days of a first and second post, and the first arrived before we went to school in the morning. Nowadays, the postie comes when everyone has gone to work, if at all. It puzzles me that we probably now have a lot less post than we used to do, given the increased use of email and texting by big companies, and yet the postal service seems to be struggling horrendously, and a lot worse than it ever was before the days of email and texting. Surely there should be less pressure in terms of mail volume thanks to technological advancements? Is privatisation the reason for the poor service, or just inefficiency?

Although no-one has claimed their mail has been stolen, it's hardly impossible for it to happen.
I lived in Bellfield St up until a couple of years ago. We had problems with several parcels not turning up over a perIod of a number of months. I'm sure it wasn't just me who this happened to and I'm assuming a higher number of claims for missing items alerted Royal Mail to problems in the area. One day we received a letter from Royal Mail informing us someone in the sorting or delivery process had been caught stealing and sacked. They apologised for any impact this employees actions had on our service. Definitely wasn't our postie though, he was still delivering.
I now live on Sword St (Duke St end) and have no problems at all. We get post most days and anything we are expecting arrives in a timely manner. 9 times out of 10 we are in when the postie chaps with a parcel/signed for and any time we get a 'sorry we missed you' we've definitely been out.
I can only suggest ensuring your service buzzer gives access from early morning until lunch time as the there can be no excuses not to deliver. It's pointless speculating where the problem in the process is so complain to Royal Mail about any problems, particularly if you have evidence of poor service (ie, you can show the date of postage on a parcel was weeks ago). If there are a number of complaints and they aren't aware of any reason to expect a problem, I'm sure they'll look into it. Also, any time something goes missing or is excessively late, fill in the appropriate claim forms (or encourage the sender to do so) and this way it can't be ignored.
#19 - Julie replied on the 30/08/2014 2:53:19 PM
I don't think for a minute that a postman is stealing mail. I agree with the posts above and think that this is a problem with Royal Mail. It seems very odd that parcels and letters are taking so long to arrive, when they have been posted from the uk. Also, this is a new problem which we haven't been experiencing before, hence why I raised the question on the forum. It definitely seem to be an issue, and one which is causing me some problems with regard to mail which I am now starting to think is lost!

if your not in to open your door how pray tell can the postman get in to deliver seems obvious to me stay in
#17 - Anon replied on the 30/08/2014 1:43:45 PM
Live on Sword Street, have noticed in the last few months mail is scarce...only get deliveries once or twice a week, despite expecting things...
Sometimes parcel notes get left, but the postman doesn't knock to see if I'm in...
#16 - anon replied on the 30/08/2014 1:42:57 PM
Are we not making assumption that postman should press every button on intercom until he gets reply, and not just button for addressee. There are actually people who would complain about this, which is perhaps why postman doesn.t do it.
#15 - Frank Plowright replied on the 30/08/2014 1:41:59 PM
I didn't consider that a postman is stealing my mail, but there has been at least one case of that happening in Glasgow in recent years. I accept that there could be plenty of other possible reasons why my mail hasn't been arriving, but four days with nothing has never previously occurred. This morning, a day after complaining, I received five packages and four letters. The two packages sent within the UK have packing slips designating them as sent on August 18th and August 21st, which corresponds with the e-mails I received telling me they'd been sent. They've taken an awful long time to arrive whatever the reasons.
#14 - anon _l replied on the 30/08/2014 1:40:09 PM
Anon, have you posted on here before jumping in to defend Royal Mail. Your posts sound very familiar. Please point out where someone has suggested the postie is stealing their mail. Nor has anyone suggested any criminality.
I think the majority of posters are concerned that their mail is coming in batches. I ordered something online, i got it within days but it happened to be broke so the seller sent a replacement. This was sent on the 2nd of August and it arrived yesterday. Where's it been all this time? Seeing as the 1st one was received so quickly. Oh and the package was dated the 2nd so was definitely posted when the seller said they had.
My theory is the posties are over worked and just can't get through the sheer volume. Anon please rest assured I'm not blaming the postman here. This is entirely down to Royal Mail. The one we get is really helpful, but I'll be honest he looks knackered under the weight of all that mail he's carrying.
#13 - anon replied on the 29/08/2014 11:26:32 PM
If mail for you arrives in the local sorting office it will be taken out to you!(nothing sits in the office all morning)
Obviously it hasnt arrived,so contact the sender again!
The postman isn't stealing your mail( he shares a van remember)
#12 - Frank Plowright replied on the 29/08/2014 10:33:30 PM
In my case it's not that the postman can't gain access. Two people in the block work from home, so access is possible 99% of the time. I get on really well with the regular postman, but hadn't seen him for a week before this. I'm expecting quite a bit of stuff that I've been told has been sent, yet nothing has dropped through my letter box in four days.
#11 - Julie replied on the 29/08/2014 10:32:39 PM
Glad to hear it's not just me. I've still not had any mail and I'm definitely expecting some. I understand that it may be that the post man can't gain access to the building but this hasn't been an issue in the past? There are some elderly people in my building who are in all day so not sure that it's possible that this is what is causing the problem.
#10 - anon replied on the 29/08/2014 5:43:55 PM
Sounds, yet again, that the postman cant gain access, due to:-
1.Service button not working
2.Nobody responding after he presses the flat number!
Lots of stuff delivered e,g. Special Delivery,Recorded Deliery,Tracked is scanned via a PDA electronic system which confirms wether or not an item was delivered (highlighting, time of delivery, date etc)
If the postman couldnt get in,he would type this on to the PDA system which tells the sender what has happened!
Don't think for a sec, that the postman isn't bothering to turn up,because he operates from a shared van these days and his fellow driver would be aware of any laziness/criminality!
conclusion:- If he cant gain access, you wont get mail,so tell your factor to change the timer on your service button to about 2.00pm and most of the problems should be resoled!
#9 - Frank Plowright replied on the 29/08/2014 2:26:47 PM
The last day I received anything was Monday (or possibly earlier - I was away), and nothing since. I've just called the sorting office and made them aware of my lack of mail and of the comments on the forum.
#8 - Mr Anderson replied on the 29/08/2014 2:26:01 PM
Although, yesterday I did get mail. It was a massive amount. Not sure if it was just a lot of days all collected together. Or just that it all came at once?!?
#7 - Mort replied on the 29/08/2014 10:52:05 AM
The other week the buzzer went and I walked from the living room to the hall to answer and no one was there. I heard a van drive off and it was the post van. I reckon it was about 12 seconds all in all. The next day the postie puts a card through the door to go pick up a parcel stating that I wasn't in when he tried to deliver it. I opened the door and asked him why he did that and he told me I wasn't in when he tried yesterday. I must make sure I get to that buzzer within 5 seconds in future. Honestly, what happened to this once decent service?

We live on the Parade.

I am lucky to get one delivery a week. They always claim "no access" in spite of a neighbour working from home!
#1 - anon replied on the 28/08/2014 8:56:24 PM
We get mail approximately once a week. Everyone in the close works, so the postie can't get in. I have had two parcels that simply haven't arrived - they've gone back to Springburn, and i have never been able to pick them up.
