Fireworks/explosions

Has anyone else been hearing lots of fireworks/loud explosions around the Bellgrove/Sword/Comleypark area over the last week or so? During daytime - I've seen the fireworks but other times the explosions seem too loud to be fireworks!?

I think it is a car backfiring, I can hear it from my flat at Duke Street, sometimes in the distance, sometimes closer by. It's pretty loud.

Sounds like safety crackers that they might use when working on the rail lines and want to hear if a train is coming.
