Scrap metal thieves
Anon posted on the 27/11/2014 3:01:28 AM
I noticed two men in a white van trying a few intercom doors and managed to gain entrance to our close via the service button, they went round our back court, a minute later one of the men came out of our close carrying one of our metal washing line poles and took it to his van so I went out to the back court to find out what they were doing and confronted the other man who was carrying another metal washing line pole, I demanded to know what he was doing with our washing poles, he apologised and said he thought they were just s**** and he would put it back on the ground where he found it (we did have one broken pole awaiting repair), he told me someone upstairs phoned them to take some s**** away and they both quickly drove off, seems like the s**** metal thieves has started working in broad daylight so be vigilant

Yes there has been lots of this in Dennistoun of late, 2 weeks ago access was gained to our communal close and roof hatch where the stole the communal aerial and support cables they also did the same on the close next door. Be vigilant with who has access to your close.

This really is the lowest of the low.
The effort some of these people go to in order to get a fairly worthless piece of metal is staggering. No consideration for the people who will have to pay £200 to get a new ariel.
If they put their efforts to a legitimate job Glasgow would be a better city for it.

They float about at 4am most days. I've seen them sneaking around the backs trying to find something to get. Have a yellow high-viz jacket on. Look like foreigners to me.
Also some Scottish mob saying they are doing roof-insulation is going around here too in the Calton & Dennistoun areas. They go up in the loft and steal all of the insulation foamy stuff and put it in a van. Guys are frauds. They've been floating around here for a few months too. They have a hired lorry with them. Total conman. Loads of people have fallen for this.

Have any of you reported these men to the police?

Good advice to remain vigilant re metal thefts, but I can't tell you how much I dislike phrases like "Look like foreigners to me". Even if they are - and it seems you're merely judging on appearance - what difference does it make? A thief's a thief.
Such metal thefts have been a problem for some time now, with the culprits as likely to have been born within the UK as outside it. There is currently a plan to introduce a law to license metal dealers in Scotland, similar to one which was passed in the rest of the UK last year.
I'm sure most dealers are above board, as are the people who take legitimately acquired metal to them. But there will always be unscrupulous ones who turn a blind eye to thieves, no matter where they're from.

'Look like foreigners to me'? What's that like then? Does it make it worse if they're born in Scotland or not? What's it got to do with anything? Maybe you should move to Clacton, Rochester or Strood if you've got a problem with 'foreigners'?
What this is, is a sign of desperate times. And classically people are turning on each other rather than dealing with the cause of the problem which is government policy. It's sad to see people spouting knee-jerk xenophobic nonsense.

Lets be clear it is only an opinion to refer to them as foreigners each to their own way of words. Also it is easier to spot conmen to others if they are foreigners if you don't like the comments just read and move on you would be the first to winge if there was no description

Classic - first retort of the racist is free speech. If you don't like the criticism don't use the words and move on and stop winging yourself ... whoever you might seeing that you choose to hide views that you evidently know are unacceptable and unpalatable in civilised company behind anonymity. No Pasarán.

Hey, since when was it racist to say that someone looks foreign?

Just for the record the people to stole our communal aerials were Scottish with local accents and they gained access by telling an elderly neighbour that they were there representing the factors to do some roof-insulation.
