Christmas Tree Disposal

Rob posted on the 2/01/2015 11:20:19 AM

Do we put these out on the street, anyone know what to do with these?

As with other bulk items you put them round your back court/garden and phone the Council for uplift.

Google "Christmas tree recycling Glasgow" and info (1st item on search results) comes up as to what you can do with your tree. Putting it out for special uplift is a rubbish idea as they'll end up in landfill.

curiouscat you could have been a bit less offensive with your response!

Thanks for the replies, bulk uplift it is then, would love to recycle it but don't have a brown bin or a car!

There's a point to recycle them in Alexandra Park. Just where the bike club live (past the bowling club) there's a large crate/box thing for xmas trees.

We walked along Alexandra Parade to Alexandra Park to dispose of our tree. Amusing sight for others and enables environmentally friendly disposal!

Anon,
My reply was not supposed to be offensive but informative. Walking to Alexandra Park to recycle is perfectly doable as Jane says.

Curiouscat is it "perfectly doable" if you are on your own and your tree is 9' tall? Before you say it, the tree was delivered to me.

How long does a 9 feet tree take to grow to be used for a few weeks of Holidays?

Perhaps people should do some research into how to get rid of their tree before they get one, since the council rules are clear on how they should be disposed of.

As Malarki has posted it's not as if they information is hidden away.

Anon, you hit the nail on the head - "Perhaps people should do some research into how to get rid of their tree before they get one, since the council rules are clear on how they should be disposed of." If you can't recycle it, get a fake tree. Save the earth :)

While I agree that people need to think about the impact and implications of getting a christmas tree (like they should also think about anything else ...), it's worth noting that the council's disposal information didn't appear until after christmas which makes it difficult for people to make an informed choice. I'd also be supportive of the council nominating a date on which they'd collect trees from tenement properties ... and thinking about passing the trees onto feed goats:www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-30630761

Do not get a fake tree, it's likely to hang about in Landfill for thousands of years and is made from toxic hydrocarbons. A real tree is always less damaging even if you have a new one every year of your life. Worth a quick google!
