More money for west end!

Just read article on STV website about the much needed improvements for Byres Road. It is becoming a BID Aarea- interesting read. Forum won't allow the link up so if you google you will find it.

Be great if we could have that for dennistiun!

Dennistoun needs the community to really get behind it and use our local shops and cafes and restaurants as much as possible.

A BID would be fantastic for Duke St. It needs some coordinated action to build on the positive momentum.

Maybe the people who worked on the East-end social could get involved.

I'd love to see the public realm improved. Maybe some of the granite flagstone paving you see in the merchant city would be great.

Thanks for flagging this up.

Dennistoun Community Council has followed recent BID developments with interest (along with similar activity in Sauchiehall Street, Shawlands and Govan).

DCC members undertook an audit of Duke Street, with a focus on the 200+ shops between Bellgrove and Millerston Streets. Findings and interim recommendations were presented at DCC meeting in August 2014 and DCC will shortly begin a process of engagement with community partners and stakeholders.

Also, in taking this work forward DCC representatives recently met with Principal Planning Officer at Glasgow City Council; we'd highlighted the activity taking place elsewhere and in Glasgow and suggested that Duke Street was due some attention. This proposal was supported and we look forward to GCC support for DCC's community engagement around Duke Street as our local high street.

This work also builds on DCC responses to Glasgow's Local Development Plan in 2012 and 2014, including many suggestions about Duke Street improvements. DCC had early involvement in plans for last year's Duke Street Expo event - a fantastic event developed and delivered by Chemikal Underground Records.

For information about DCC's recent activities in relation to planning, place-making and public realm improvements please sign up to receive DCC news and info at our website.
