Thanks a lot!

Thanks to the person who picked up my cat from the street that she lives on! Took her to the vet and they sent her to Hamilton SSPCA. I don't drive so cannot collect her and they are only open until 4pm so will be closed by the time my partner comes home. She has a cat flap, fresh food and clean water and a bed in her house. WHY she was picked up, I'll never know. ALSO, to add insult to injury, it will cost me £27.50 to collect her today and it goes up every day she is there! She was outside on the street she lives on! She is an outdoor cat who is free to come and go as she pleases and thanks to you she is now in a strange environment with people she doesn't know. Thanks.

It's not as if the cat can turn around and aay, "this is where I live", is it. I know you're annoyed but their heart was in the right place.

She wears a collar and was probably next to the flat with the cat flap! WHY did they pick her up in the first place??

#3 - curious cat replied on the 22/04/2015 9:35:47 PM

I was unable to collect her and now she's in a centre in Hamilton with utter strangers. Not great for a 23 year old cat who's deaf and demented. She may look skinny but she is loved and missed. Next time, have a wee think about what you are doing before interfering in other people's business. She has no sign of injury and she is well fed and watered. NO NEED for anyone else to intervene. Thanks again.

Maybe go and have a word with the vet she was taken to? They might be able to tell you what the person said when they handed her in.
From what you say, it seems like an over-reaction on the part of the do-gooder.

Not sure what you'll achieve by coming here to rant. There's constant notices and posts about missing cats in dennistoun. As The Mentalist says, their heart was probably in the right place.

I think it's a real shame to slag off the person who honestly thought they were trying to help!! I know you are annoyed but what happened if your cat had been in real danger - would you have been happy for people to ignore it then?

I gotta concur with curious cat on this - I'm always dubious of do-gooders with their hearts in the right place, usually means their heads are stuck somewhere else which I think this is a prime example of. I'd be well miffed if anyone interfered with my feline friends, as one of my neighbours found out when he let his dog go chasing after a local cat that was minding its own business ...

Hoping the person that did this sees my post!

#9 - curious cat replied on the 23/04/2015 12:41:21 AM

Thank you interested. Good idea - if only the vet didn't think she was male and 10 years younger than she was (the cat, not the vet) Busy bodies doing NO GOOD this time round I'm afraid....

#10 - The Mentalist replied on the 23/04/2015 10:44:25 AM

Well, at least you know the cat is safe.

#11 - anon-parade replied on the 23/04/2015 10:46:47 AM

Technically, the person who picked her up never took your cat to Hamilton themselves. They took the cat to what I assume to be the closest vet and they sent it on.

I don't know what condition your pussy is in, but if it's as you describe then they possibly thought they were helping an old, possibly ill cat by taking it to the vet. I think you owe that person an apology for trying to help out an old cat.

I don't think you should be blaming them. If you want to play the blame game, I think you should be blaming the vet. If the person didn't know better by not seeing any collar, then the vet should have known better since one would assume they know what a cat's collar is.

We are at a time where lots of people don't help other people and are happy to turn a blind eye when there is a situation. What happened to manners and courtesy. I'm in my late 40s and I was taught by my parents to help others etc. I think anon-parade is right. You should be annoyed at the Vet not the person who took your cat in the first place. They obviously thought they were doing good - they didn't go out of their way just for a laugh!! I think it's really sad people's attitudes these days. Would you prefer that everyone was selfish and just all about themselves?? I'd rather be surrounded by 'do-gooder' who care ......

I appreciate all your comments, thank you I have got my cat back and she is happy as larry although now she doesn't have her collar on as they treated her in Hamilton and removed it. I'm annoyed at the whole situation really. She LIVES where she was picked up from - 1st mistake! No injuries or anything else wrong with her so why interfere? The vet "didn't know what to do with her and so sent her to Hamilton - Why, I'll never know. Do they not have beds down there? At Hamilton, which is miles away btw - we got her and they told us that she had been treated (without our consent) for things that I actually have already treated her for! Of course if she was injured I would hope some kind hearted soul would help her out (if I wasn't around) but THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH HER! Hence my annoyance. Rant well and truly over.

Is your cat chipped? Does it have a collar?

#15 - taylor56294 replied on the 24/04/2015 2:06:41 PM

If the cat was chipped then they would have been able to return to owner!!

#16 - anon-parade replied on the 24/04/2015 2:52:25 PM

I think you might be using the Dennistoun forum as a sounding board for your personal annoyance. In my opinion, the dennistoun pages should be used to encourage community spirit, whereas you seem to be keen on discouraging any kind of community.

I agree with several people on the forum and in particular taylor56294 and anon later on. If I had a pet that I let out I think I'd be responsible enough to chip it. That way if something like that happened the vet would be able to trace me.

#17 - anon_l replied on the 24/04/2015 9:24:58 PM

So am I reading this right? Is your cat chipped or not? If not then really you only have yourself to blame.

#18 - anon duke st replied on the 24/04/2015 11:05:54 PM

curious cat you are always posting on here about your cats going missing. I think you should get them chipped or at least put you phone number on their collars.

You live in a big city, you can't just have your cats wandering around and expect it all to be fine.

#19 - anon replied on the 26/04/2015 9:35:12 AM

how did you find out that your cat had been taken to the vets in the first place, if one of my cats went missing I would have just thought that it had went wandering and got lost, I am just asking in case that "good hearted soul" picks up one of my cats

'I think you might be using the Dennistoun forum as a sounding board for your personal annoyance. In my opinion, the dennistoun pages should be used to encourage community spirit, whereas you seem to be keen on discouraging any kind of community.'

On this basis the majority of the threads and postings on the forum should be deleted as they are about someone being annoyed by one thing or another, usually without much constructive to say in terms of how to deal with the issue they are annoyed about.

To be honest, as a cat owner on the parade, if my moggie was to get outside he would likely be harmed on the road so I would be very grateful for a good samaritan should the daft sod get out. I realise that the circumstances arent the same here, but I'd prefer to see the good intent in this situation than a busybody.

I think that cats proection and a few vets run a microchipping program that might prevent the Hamilton situation happening again, which must have been a total pain.
