Westenders

Ok, just a wee bit of tongue and cheek here.
Does anyone have the same problems as me trying to get friends to leave the West End and come East for a sociable?
I get excuses and the odd joke about not being able to find the passport etc but it is sort of frustrating.
With Redmonds, Dennistoun BBQ, Celinos, Nakodar, Amore (my personal favs) and loads more like Drygate and The Dutchess - there's no shortage of options for them. If Kelvingrove or the Botanics aren't in viewing distance they seem to go into a blind panic. A wee bit of an exaggeration of course but would be interested to hear if anyone has similar experiences.
(Feel free to include friends in the North of the city and the Southside too)

no-never had any problems, they loved the old fashioned pubs and cafe's that used to be in duke street - that's before it became gentrified though.
are you sure its not your aftershave or something that's putting them off

Come to think of it - I am a bit of a moan.
My aftershave however is certainly not the issue - everyone loves a bit of Stetson.
Why does everyone bring out the 'gentrification' tag when an area gets a couple of decent bars or cafes? It does my head in to be honest. There are plenty of places in the area where you can get a roll and tattie scone, fried pizza supper, a pint of heavy etc. A few people want something different - a latte or a craft beer for example. Isn't it good to have something for everyone? That's what I like about living in the area - I can get a scooby snack and a posh coffee if I want.
Try Finnieston, London's East End or Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district to see what gentrification really is these days. I Don't believe Duke Street/Alexander Parade will reach those levels.

Haha, yeah quite right Mort. I think we're a fair way away from becoming the Shoreditch of the north.
My friends from the west do actually come over quite a lot, but some of them lived in Dennistoun before so they're fond of it! And a few friends have gone from renting in the west to buying in the east. I have got one friend who absolutely hates Dennistoun but visits occasionally. And moans a lot about how awful/far away it is. Haha

I have definitely had a bit more success getting friends to come out to Drygate...anything further East is a bit of a struggle. Although there are a few that make a definite effor to come to Tibo's from further afield.

Drygate does seem to be a success.

The first time I was in Drygate there were 2 lads next to us saying to the waiter that they couldn't understand why Drygate wasn't opened in the West End. Face palm springs to mind!

Well let them stay in the West end.
Although the place is getting better, it's now getting more expensive to live here.
There is virtually no chance of moving up while staying in Dennistoun
