Onslow Square garden/dog toilet

I have lived here for a long amount of years having the pleasure of my children and grandchildren until recently being able to play here planted nice flowers but if teenagers went to play here the police moved them on.I have just walked up Whitehill Street wondering what all the noise waa to turn into Onslow Drive to see 9 adults with their dogs all running around loose barking and the adults all talking over each other the noise was unbelievable so much to fencing off a nice square which locals were against to form a public dog lavatory which I and others can no longer use for my gran children because of unresponsiblle dig owners I wonser if they would get the same qelcome at the gardens Broompark Drive or Seaton Terrace I very much doubt it,and before anyone wonders I am a dog and cat owner but I respect my neighbours by not disturbing their peace and quiet

Is this a designated dog area?

I only ever see people in there with their dogs.

I never see people in there enjoying it as a community garden.

Mind you, I am only walking past it every 2nd day so perhaps there's all sorts of

other stuff going on in it when I'm not there.

I honestly don't mind it being a dog park as I would prefer it to owners letting their dogs poo in the street. However at the end of the day there is a park that could have been used or the spare ground next to the old Golfhill Primary might have been a better site.

I don't know if it is an official dog park!

I have noticed that the gardens at Whitehill place (around the buffalo bill statue)has also turned into a dog toilet, you have to be careful for dog poo when you walk on the grass those days, also Whitehill gardens just off Garthland Drive has been used by couldn't-care-less dog owners for year (and it smells) we used to have all those nice areas for neighbours to gather and enjoy all spoiled by lazy dog owners

I live just off Whitehill Place and used to take my kids in there but daren't know. We pay a factors fee to keep the gardens maintained however selfish dog owners are quite happy to let their dogs poo there and clean up. I have asked the Factor to put signs up but nothing as yet!! I actually confronted two men recently and I have to say they were very apologetic. Even if they do clean up kids still can't run around.

No its not a designated dog park the title to the land is still owned by the tenants in Onslow Square but as the council has maintained it they felt with some members of the community council they could just change it by putting a pathway and fencing even though some tenants disagreed with it. They have wasted a nice garden to a disgusting dog toilet which now gives off a horrible smell

All of these gardens are privately owned, but unlike the owners at Seton Terrace, we cannot afford to have them fenced off with locked gates :( More Environmental wardens dishing out £50 on the spot fines would put a stop to the ignorant (and sometimes very rude when approached) dog owners. Dog bins may also encourage owners to poo pick. Anyone in DCC who could take some action please?

I agree with on the spot fines and more dog bins. I once complained to GCC about someone whose was allowing to foul the streets and they wouldn't do anything about it as, although I knew which close they lived in, I didn't know the flat number. I don't know why they couldn't have sent a general letter to all the flats. When I lived in Southside in a block of 12 flats we all received a letter about a dog fouling. There was only one dog in the close so everyone knew who it was. Apparently they don't want to offend!!! Isn't the street covered in dog poo offensive!!!!

well picking up in the gardens wont work, because even after you pick up poo germs will be left behind and you cant pick up when the dog pee's, I certainly wouldn't want my child playing there after that, dogs should be banned from the gardens - don't know how we would achieve that as most owners would just ignore any "NO DOGS" signs.
the gardens should really only be used for young kids to play on without worrying about running through dog turds

As far as I was aware it is a park for the dogs hence why up until recently it had dog poo bins (only changed to proper bins a few months ago) I've been walking my dog in the park for a while now and at the beginning the park was a mess with broken glass, rubbish etc. It hasn't been tidier than it is now and if people actually had a look they would be aware of this. I'd also just like to point out that I wouldn't know anyone around this area if it wasn't for the dog park, surely its a good thing that parts of the community are getting to know one another?? Also, dogs generally aren't in before 7:30am and usually no later than 20:30 so complaining about the noise is a bit unfair.

Yep, it is a dog park.

Take my dog often. When I complained about the bins being changed the council said it wasn't their fault.

It's great idea. Centralise the dog mess and put plenty of bins for it to be put in.

Imagine if the had a dog poo composter in there.

Well I stay directly across from the park, and people complaing about the noise is ridiculous, not once have I heard noise,it must be a crime to chat with neighbours now!Not a dog owner myself but will definitely say the owners pick up the mess, and as for it been a kids Park, not once have I seen any children in there and that was before it become this "dog Park" come on give the dog owners a rest, and start complaing about other things if that's how yous get you're kicks!!

It is not a dogpark , i live directly in font of the park and indeed still hold partial feu on the gardens which i brought up at the meeting at city park when GHA started work without consultation . I do not mind dogwalkers using the gardens but it is not exclusive. Indeed there is only one historical dog toilet in Glasgow`s west end and both GHA and the council accept it is a communal garden area . As for it never being used by children i have watched quite a number of local children and indeed adults play in it particularly with remote control cars . The dog walkers have been congregating in even larger numbers , often until after nine at night but as the colder nights come in i presume this will abate . It is communal gardens for the benefit of all a dogbin does not designate use , lets all try to accommodate each other responsibly.

Sorry to inform anyone who cares this park was never meant to be used for dogs I am also a dog owner but having lived next to this garden for over 30 years I went to the consultation and it has not turned out what was purposed and to say there is no noise from owners talking over each other let me know who fitted your windows because I definitely hear it

I have lived here for almost 20 years and prior to this piece of land being landscaped and fenced it was an absolute eyesore of rubble and mess and have no memory of children playing there as it wasn't even suitable for a game of football etc My husband has lived around here for over 40 years and does not remember playing there as it was unkempt and unsuitable.
So, when this was brought to its current state over 3 years ago it's been lovely to walk through with my dog, meet some amazing people and their dogs and feel genuinely part of a community for once. The park users are incredibly aware of the need to.keep.the park clean and not only pick up their own dog poo, but also the mess belonging to the rare irresponsible person who does not pick up. No one gets more annoyed about this that other dog owners. When I walk past and hear the chatter, laughter and watch some beautiful dogs all playing happily it really makes me smile. The local children often come in and ask politely if the can pat the dogs or throw a ball. I have personally made some great friends here This area has connected so many people across a variety of generations and backgrounds...... long may it continue.
