I found a shady young asian guy in his early 20's in a light grey track suit, shiny black trainers & black & white stripey t-shirt hanging around the broompark back close last night 19/10.
When confronted he told me to go away, he was waiting for people and it was none of my business what he was doing there. When pressed on this he said he could do what he likes there as it's public property. (my neighbors have heard this before from similar individuals with equally anti-social agendas) After moving him on I phoned the police, who where already in the area on a call.
I've read here that there have been break ins in the area this information may be useful to those local or with similar concerns.

Wondering if setting up Neighbourhood watch? Not sure how this works but might be something to bring along to the Council meeting

Our close is very secure, we upgraded the lock in our close with a new magnetic lock which couldn't be kicked in and out back door was always locked but as you said the bin men continually leave the door open.

VC - putting signs up are a good idea as not everyone uses this site and knows what has happened, once someone gets access to the back court it is easy to climb walls and railings.
I have to ask a question though, did you have your kitchen window open a crack or did they smash the glass ?

This is just awful to read.
I am hoping there will be a grant to upgrade my close door which gets kicked in regularly. Still waiting to hear about it.
Had to call the police & ambulance on Saturday morning as there was someone lying outside our flat. I'm pretty sure they were drunk (i hope it was that an nothing more serious) but we joked that these type of people usually just let themselves into our close for a snooze!

The bin men are particularly bad at leaving doors unlocked and I have complained so often it's not true. Sorry to hear this VC I hope you recover soon. Thank you for putting up notices as well. Maybe everyone would do well to be a bit more vigalant in the neighbourhood. I have had cause to call the police twice in recent weeks for 2 different crimes and feel like we need more of a police presence in Dennistoun. These criminals need to be stopped!

Yes quite a lot ft taken it can be replaced but it's the fact that someone is out doing this, I am going to go round nearby closes and put a sign up for everyone to keep there back close doors locked as that is where they must have gained access

Our close is very good at locking the back door but I see that there is a lot of back doors open so easy for people to gain access I am going to go round and put signs up asking people to lock their back close doors to try keep things safer

thanks for the warning "VC" sorry to hear that your house was burgled, did they get much?
we always keep our intercom door and back door locked, but I have noticed that a couple of intercoms in Garthland drive seem to be broken and you just have to push them to open the close door, a few back court doors also seem to have no locks, there seem to be a lot of break-ins lately in Dennistoun

We have been broken in to tonight between 630-830pm in meadowpark street through our kitchen Window, our communal back garden is enclosed so they must have got in through someone's close, devastated - our garden backs on to people from Garthland drives garden

I had something quite similar except it was in the morning, I think he got in with the bin men and was skulking about being very shady. A week later someone stole our communal digital aerial, be vigilant
