It is horrible when someone breaks into your home. It can take a while to settle again. When it happened to me, I fitted a burglar alarm and decent window locks. I know it is not an inexpensive solution, but I felt safer and it was cheaper than moving house which was my first slightly ridiculous instinct. I am sorry this has happened to you but hope you can feel safe again in your home.

Really sorry to hear that. Hopefully the police can catch the culprit.

I know from experience it is not pleasant but when we got broken into they did get the culprits as they were stupid enough not to wear gloves and already had a record. In terms of security I think shutters look good and also provide an extra deterent - most of the tenements used to have them and many still do, either nailed back or covered over with boards. Can be quite easy to reinstate and also can replace the need for curtains too.

Hi James. What locks did you fit? We have double glazing with the handle locks on them (ground floor) but I'm looking to add something onto them. Ta.

Hi Alan, we had sash windows and fitted locks accross the mid bar. They were not good to look at but were very sturdy. However, it doesn't sound as if that would work for newer windows. We did have mortice locks fitted to the door to the flat - and another heavy lock to the inner door. Just after the burglary, I really hated coming home as I was worried that I would be arriving in to another break in. I think that dennistoun community council link in with the police and might be able to signpost you to the best security solutions. In the meantime, just make sure you have decent insurance. I thought I could not afford it back when I was burgled. That was a decision I lived to regret!
