Alexandra Park trees for the axe

Took a cycle through Alexandra Park today and noticed two Council employees marking trees (A whole line) adjacent to Eastercraigs with orange 'X' marks - clearly to be cut down. It all seemed a bit of had a quick look at them and then the 'X' put on, noticed as I left the park later they were at the side of the pond at the children's play area marking more trees.
Hopefully there is a genuine reason for these trees being felled - and not purely for aesthetics.
