Artist Hixxy Creates Dennistoun Mural For The World Ahead

The mural was created by London artist Josephine Hicks (Hixxy) in collaboration with Clarks Shoes' autumn/winter 2022 brand campaign "For The World Ahead".

Jo studied fine art in Liverpool and her mural with signature colourful botanical illustrations are showcased on the gable end of the tenement at 285 Duke Street where it welcomes folk coming into Dennistoun.

On her Facebook page Jo describes her work as 'fun and summery, aiming to transport the public to a happy and still place.. mines is a wildflower meadow, cloud walking'.

Update 22/10/2022: Now you see it. Now you don't.

The mural on the gable end of the listed tenement building attracted some controversy in its short period as a colourful piece of commercial artwork that brightened up this corner of Dennistoun and has been painted over.

A Glasgow City Council spokesman told The Herald: “No planning application has been received in relation to this mural.”
