Two boys aged 13 and 14 have been reported to the Children's Panel over three charges of wilful fire-raising and vandalism causing more than £10,000 damage at Craigielea Day Nursery in Dennistoun.

November 2004

An elderly woman of 97 was attacked while visiting a relative in Dennistoun. It happened in Finlay Drive near Cumbernauld Road on Saturday evening 20th November around 6.20pm. The woman was injured and taken to hospital after being thrown to the ground. The attacker, described as 5ft.8in tall and wearing a blue top with white sleeves, ran off with her bag that only contained a loaf of bread. Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Dennistoun flat hunters have seen prices increase three times more than the general house market rate in the past 18 months.

October 2004

Scottish Water will begin work on the Molendinar Burn affected by flash floods in July 2002 and damaged 200 homes in the east end of Glasgow.

Haghill Park Community Sports Centre - The new Sports Centre at 415 Cumbernauld Road is having an open day on Sunday 10th October (1-4pm). This is a great opportunity to see exactly what facilities it has to offer. Staff will be in attendance to answer your questions and let you look around. Parade Park being built on the site of the old Tilcon Works on Alexandra Parade, Dennistoun will have 230 new homes including penthouses expected to cost over £200,000.

September 2004

A total of 48 new houses for rent have been built between Ledaig Street and Todd Street in Haghill. The new housing development by Milnbank Housing Association consists of a mixture of cottage flats, semi-detached houses and bungalows. Hand over of the houses to the association is ongoing and completion is expected during September 2004.

From Tuesday 7th September the new radio station Saga 105.2fm will broadcast popular music and lifestyle content aimed at the aged 50 and over listeners in Glasgow and West Central Scotland. The state-of-the-art studio based at City Park, Dennistoun is expected to employ over 40 staff.

August 2004

Ten fire engines were called to deal with a blaze started in a top floor flat in Finlay Drive, Dennistoun.

The newly built Haghill Primary School and Community Sports Centre will open after the school summer holidays. The facility replaces the original Haghill Primary School now closed after 100 years of service and the Alexandra Sports Centre which was demolished to make way for it. Situated in Alexandra Park it will include a 4 court sports hall and an outdoor floodlit synthetic football pitch.

The NecropolisNeil Young is a member of the estates staff of Milnbank Housing Association and is also a keen photographer. This Sunday for one day only he is putting together a collection of his work to be displayed in the local housing associations community hall. There will be tea, coffee and hand made cards for sale. A prize draw will also be held with the winner receiving a copy of Neil's image of the Necropolis (as shown). All proceeds will go to local people with special needs. The exhibition of Neil's images can be seen at 1pm Sunday 15th August at 53 Ballindalloch Drive, Dennistoun.

16 new tanks are being installed at Tennents Caledonian Breweries increasing beer and lager production by an extra 100 million pints per year. The £3.3 million investment in the plant will push staffing levels to 440 in total. Tennents have a heritage going back to 1556 and is Glasgow's oldest commercial concern.
