At a cost of £1.2 Million parts of the 100 year old Victorian brick sewer system is being upgraded and new overflow tanks are being constructed underground. Steve Pitt, General Foreman for Mowlem the Scottish Water contractors explained that positioning the tanks requires the re-routing of pipework carrying the Molendinar Burn at Armadale Path and the sinking of a shaft with tunneling at Duke Street. There will be some restrictions on parking on the west side of Meadowpark Street (Alexandra Parade - Roebank Street 09:00-17:00) to allow access for heavy construction plant. The tanks are combined sewer overflow (CSO) chambers measuring 17x8x6 metres that will screed and filter the sewage allowing clean water to enter the burn.
