Zennistoun Hub offers online classes to residents isolated during Covid 19
A new social enterprise in Dennistoun is offering a range of online classes to help the community during these challenging times.
Dennistoun based Community Interest Company, Zennistoun Hub, offers alternative and complementary therapies to improve health and wellbeing.
Zennistoun Hub has won funding from The Corra Foundation and have put together a series of ‘live’, interactive lessons suitable for complete beginners. They will be run by experienced and friendly practitioners and therapists.
Their online mindfulness course was free to residents who are shielding, self-isolating or struggling with their mental health and they are planning to run a second Mindfulness Course soon.
Zennistoun Hub offer free online therapeutic art classes with Dennistoun artist John Martin Fulton and art therapist Stella Phipps.
The art class is free for all and open to anyone wanting to get creative regardless of their experience. It takes place every Thursday night at 8pm and participants can sign up using Eventbrite.
The class involves getting creative using materials you have in your own home such as toothpaste and coffee.
John Martin wants his groups to be inclusive and stress free: “The main aim of my groups is always for people to relax. Most people think they can't draw or paint but in my groups there is no pressure, and everyone can always find a way to draw and paint that is enjoyable for them. It is always therapeutic and you never know what you might create - you might surprise yourself!”
Another service soon to be launched is their live online yoga class, helping to bring an active focus and clarity to the lives of our locals.
Zennistoun Hub, founded by directors Clunie Phipps and local Dennistoun resident Nadia Maloney, has yet to open its doors on the corner of Reidvale and Sword Street, which will be a friendly community space with both free and costed classes and therapies.
Nadia, Director and Operations Manager, said, “We envision a community where everyone can access alternative and complementary therapies, regardless of social barriers and challenges. Yoga classes and mindfulness sessions will be available to all, regardless of costs, and sometimes on prescription.”
"There will also be osteopathy, acupuncture and massage therapies available to people who may not be able to afford it or are otherwise marginalised or disenfranchised. Art and music therapy sessions, walking groups, conversation classes, menopause cafes and much, much more! That's our vision at Zennistoun Hub.”
Clunie said: “Until that is possible, hopefully later this year, we want to offer a support package for the health and happiness of this community right now. And that is what these first online classes will bring.”
Zennistoun Hub is very active on social media and creatively engages with the local community. They regularly post self-care advice and signpost to charities and organisations in the local community and around Glasgow who are doing great work. They also create and post guided meditations and DIY massage posts which share information on acupressure points.
